I’m not trying to cause a big stir or anything, I am genuinely curious–what religions believe that donating organs is bad and why?
Those who are dancing look insane to those who cannot hear the music.

OTTO: as you can see, TRACER was just as confused as I was, and SCLLA admitted his error in the original post. So…?
No, Tracer explicitly mentions that the stuff he quoted was quoted from another thread in GQ.
My 2 cents:
I am definitely pro-donor, but I do have to take exception with the way the subject was handled by the doctor in the OP. Could there be a worse time to bring up the subject? I think it would have been much better if the family doctor had discussed it with the family tactfully during the pregnancy. There’s no need to mar such a wonderful moment.
I don’t know any particular denominations that don’t believe in organ donation, but I am familiar with people who believe in literal resurrection of the body when Christ comes to raise the dead to return to heaven. One of my ex’s relatives had to have a leg amputated. He still had the bone and kept it in a musical instrument case so it could be buried with him. Somehow, that story always made me smile

The BBC has a story about a hospital which kept the brains of infants who died. The parents of the babies sued and won damages. Obviously, it’s important for some people to have their relatives and offspring who die, to be intact for buriel.

Some orthodox Jews believe that organ donation is wrong because they need all their parts to be buried. However, the other view is that if you transplant a part to another human being, it’s not dead yet so it doesn’t have to be buried. Or they simply look on it as part of the duty, superior to the Mosaic laws, to preserve life.
This is not to be confused with the Christian Scientists and whatnot who think it’s wrong to receive donated organs.
