in the movies, partners finding the other having a nightmare would invariably wake them up. is this advisable?
Define “advisable.”
If you can tell I’m having a nightmare, HELL YES wake me up!
Although I did that to a roommate once, and he slugged me in his sleep.
i was thinking how you’ll remember the nasty stuff if woken as opposed to sleeping it through, where i’d think it’d be well forgotten by the time you wake up.
well it might not be advisable if your partner is wolverine…

When it seems that Ardred is having a nightmare, I wake him up and he’s invariably annoyed at having been awakened, rather than let to sleep. It’s then I remember that he rarely remembers his dreams.
I have nightmares every night, so I’m used to them and I can semi-lucidly remind my dream mind to shut up and enjoy the show.
Except this failed me last night where I dreamed I had joined the army and was constantly being followed around by this really annoying guy with a super loud, rhythmic voice. I usually am able to say “hey, that’s snoring… wake up and shake Ardred”, but my dream voice said “that only works if you’re dreaming”. Stupid dream mind. :smack:
I can see how waking up a woman who you thought was having a nightmare but who was really moaning and convulsing in a dream orgasm might get you slugged.
