Walking out in the UN. How is this viewed.

Even though the NAM speaker agreed with Ahmedinejad and no one could fault what he was saying,( he made perfect sense), the US and quickly running behind them the UK and France got up and walked out during his speech.

How do you view such behaviour?
Is it childish? Is it just basic bad manners?
How do you think other countries viewed that behaviour?

Secondly why did Clinton not mention Israel yesterday?
Can anyone take what she says seriously when she refuses to discuss Israeli nukes and the NPT?
In the BBC ‘Doha debate’ she completely sidetracked the girls question on Israeli nukes. The audience knew that and laughed. How can she be taken seriously as a foreign policy negotiator when she refuses to answer direct questions and skirts issues. How can the US be honest brokers?

The US representative should have just shouted “LIAR!” during his speech. That’s the proper response.

later, Tom.

Let’s try this in In My Humble Opinion. Moved from The BBQ Pit.

why?

what was he lying about? Did you listen to the speech?

Ahmedinejad is a liar, a murderer and a Fascist.
If he said it was raining I’d go outside to check.
The man, if you can call him that, is low life filth and the world will be a better place all round when he passes on.

what was he lying about? who did he murder?

It’s not done all the time, but it is a common occurrence. 2009. 2008. 2007. And so on, and so on.

Nobody is obligated to listen to someone as thoroughly odious as the Iranian president. So what’s the big deal? It’s not like we’re dropping a bomb on them.

Maybe you read this?
NEW YORK, May 3

NEW YORK, May 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ –

The American Jewish Committee denounced the speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the United Nations conference reviewing the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which opened today at UN Headquarters in New York.

]“Ahmadinejad’s entire speech was built on an odious and obvious lie: the denial that his regime is developing nuclear weapons,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris.
**
The IAEA said there was no proof. They have been allowed unrestricted access for years, unlike Israel’s nuke facilities. Carter even said Israel had 150 nukes.**

"Why, then, has the Iranian regime in the last four years defied four UN Security Council resolutions demanding a halt to its uranium enrichment program?

Why has Israel defied every resolution since it’s creation? The security council are the veto powers, not the whole world. Who decides who can enrich uranium? It’s their right like everyone elses. They are right beside the only nuclear power in the ME. It is their sovereign right to be able to defend itself, although I don’t believe they are developing NW. If they were it is their right since the US and the rest of the other veto member enrich uranium.

Why does Iran spurn meaningful international inspections of its nuclear sites,

The IAEA has full access

including those which it currently operates in secret?
**
say’s who? where is the proof?**

And why does Iran continue to make bloodcurdling threats to wipe Israel from the map?"
**
like the US and Israel done to the land called Palestine? look back all the old maps. Israel used to be called Palestine. Who wiped them off the map?**

Ahmadinejad’s speech was laced with anti-American and anti-Semitic invective.

**Anti American policy yes. Anti Semitic??? ridiculous!
The Arabs are semitic, the Palestinians are semitic. Look up semitic. The ones who are not Semitic are the settlers coming in droves from Europe and New York;) These people are NOT semitic, their roots are not semitic. It’s as crazy as calling the African Jews semitic.
**

From a UN podium, he refused to call Israel, a UN member state since 1949, by its name,
**
Is that any different to Israel not recognising East Al Quds as occupied land and the future Palestinian capital?, when the rest of the world does and the UN?**

referring in derogatory fashion to the “Zionist regime.”

But it is a Zionist regime. We cannot deny it. Even Joe Biden recently in his speech called himself a Zionist!
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article20615.htm

Ahmadinejad also made the spurious claim that the United States and Israel support “major terrorist networks.”

**But they do, he was not lying. The US supported and built Al Qaeda, they armed and paid them to fight the Soviets. They support and pay various terrorist regimes and cells. The US funded and armed Saddam, they support and fund Jundullah, They support and aid undemocratic leaders like Mubarak, The House of Saud etc. These are just the ones we know about.
**

“Yet again, a UN forum, this time on a critical global security issue, has been derailed by Iran’s President,” Harris said. “We pay tribute to those UN delegations, among them the United States and the vast majority of the European Union, who walked out of the room rather than dignify this tyrant.”
Lie!!! only the US and UK and France, the rest of the NAM stayed. The NAM spokesperson agreed with Ahmedinjejads points.
**
In a keynote speech to AJC’s Annual Gala in Washington, D.C. last week, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reiterated the Obama Administration’s commitment to ensuring that Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons.
**
Even though the US are the only country to have ever used them and have over 5000 of them!!!

SOURCE American Jewish Committee

I don’t see why somebody doesn’t just assassinate the asshole when he makes these frequent trips to New York for these UN conferences. I doubt you’d find a jury in the country who’d convict the assassin.

but no one has told me yet where he was lying?

You may not like the man but if you call him a liar where is the proof of your accusations?

I’m surprised they haven’t either.

I’m sure they’d love to.

As for a jury in the US. They did find OJ not guilty;)

Oh, yeah, that’s a really accurate summation of the IAEA’s views.

We get it. You like the Iranian dictator. Knock yourself out fawning over his no-tie, no-Holocaust sense of style.

wrong I don’t like him

I just agree with what he said at the UN yesterday.

I’m still waiting to hear what lies he told?

I agree with what he said too. The US looks childish when they walk out while ignoring Israel’s lack of NPT signing.

Did Iran sign the NPT? Yes. And then they failed to live up to their end of the bargain. (see earlier cite on IAEA criticism of Iran.)

Did Israel, India, and Pakistan sign the NPT? No. They never agreed to the bargain. While I think that is wrong, it is not deceitful.

To use a similar example, the US has not signed the Ottowa treaty that bans landmines. Sure, one can criticize the US for it. But it isn’t like the US signed the treaty, agreed to abide by it, and then not only fail to live up to the responsibilities, but won’t even do the honorable thing and withdraw from it.

The OP is sounding like the only difference between Israel and Iran is in the issue of nuclear weapons. Israel needs them (and whatever else it can get) to safeguard its very existence. Iran doesn’t.

Ahmedinejad’s speech was based on the premise that all countries are created equal, and all have an equal right to nuclear weapons. You’d have to be literally insane to believe that.

All countries DO have a right to whatever weapons they want - it’s called sovereignty. And Iran feels quite rightly threatened now. Imagine how the US would feel if 100,000 Iranian troops were occupying both Canada and Mexico.

You’re not really trying here. “Wipe them off the map” does not mean changing the name of a country. It means wiping out the people who live there. When Israel was created, a lot of Palestinians were driven out and some were killed, which is terrible. (Incidentally this didn’t have anything to do with the U.S.) Doing the same thing to Jews, which is what Ahmadinejad talks about, would not be justified. I think he’s blowing hot air but it’s a terrible thing to say.

You’re wrong, and this is also a hijack that has nothing to do with the remarks he made. It’s also an argument frequently used by bigots, but I guess we’ll let that slide.

It’s a good thing exclamation points are non-lethal.

This point is valid only if you see no difference between the U.S. and Iran. A (relatively) free country has a right and an obligation to defend itself by whatever means necessary. A dictatorship has no rights.

What do you mean’ Iran doesn’t’ ? Israel recently said it would bomb Iran and the US said wouldn’t stop it.
Iran has not invaded another country or waged war with anyone in 300 years. The same cannot be said for the USA or Israel. When the US gave Iraq weapons to fight Iran they used biological weapons not only only on their own people but on Iranians!! Iranians used conventional weapons, because even biological weapons is against their beliefs.

Hang on!

The USA is the only country to have bombed with nuclear not once but twice!!! are they insane then?
