This thread got me to thinking.
I’ve watched people who are talking on their cell phones while walking. Most don’t do a very good job of it. Mis-stepping up and down curbs, tripping, and almost bumping into other pedestrians are some of the things I see. I’ve had occasionally avoid talkers in intersections who simply didn’t even know I was there.
Whether or not this practice has caused death or injury, I don’t know.
Anybody?
Peace,

My link takes you to the end of the thread.
Dang.
I almost hit a woman who stepped into a crosswalk right in front of my car when she had a red light and was not paying attention.
On the other hand I have mindlessly stepped into traffic myself without even having the excuse of a cell phone.
According to this article, cell phones have had a pretty dramatic effect on pedestrian injuries and fatalities. The numbers increased, decreased, and then increased again.
It’s the second article down, and has a link or two. (one’s a PDF and the other has another link to a PDF). Actually, if one googles, there’s a lot more. From personal observation I assumed there would be.
It seems cells aren’t quite as mobile as we hoped. At least not safely.
This might be related, off hand, I don’t have a cite;
I have heard that, driving while on a cell phone is equal to, or worse than driving under the influence.
I would wager, that the ““influence”” of a cell phone while walking is similar.
I’m sorry. I should have linked to the thread that inspired this one. Here ya go;
