Check it out. I didn’t know they were allowed to sell this stuff.
I can’t imagine trying to fly a plane with a 12lb helmet on my head. I don’t like riding my bike with a 2lb helmet…
Those Sportsmens Guide people have given me shoddy goods every time I bought from em.
Wrong sizes, out at the seams, product not as described.
I recommend you avoid em, YRMV.
Why not? You can buy all kinds of old military junk. Heck, Donald Trump bought an entire military helicopter. Military outfits all over the world sell off old useless junk. The only other thing they can do with it is use it for target practice. You’ll notice that the russians did remove the electronics from the helmet before getting rid of it, just like the US removed the guns from the helicopter before letting Donald have it. There are limits to what governments will give away.
You don’t even have to stop with the helmet. If you have enough money, you can buy an entire Russian Mig aircraft. The helmet is probably included in the deal, too.
Hmm, when did they switch from those old pressure suit style helmets to the ones with the yooge visor, like the guy in the middle of this drawing is wearing? I always thought those were cool as hell, especially with the blue-tinted visors.
You can buy all the flyable (if slightly tactically disabled) MIG fighter planes from Russia and other Eastern Bloc countries all day long if you want. They are extremely cheap too at about $60,000 or about the cost of a used Cessna. They sell them in lots of aviation publications. If you actually want to keep one flying however, good luck with those $500,000 a piece engine rebuilds and several thousand dollar an hour operating costs (That is if you can find the parts).
I doubt they did switch. This helmet is for the pilot of a MiG 25, which flies exceptionally fast and high, which necessitates a pressure suit. This is the helmet for that suit. The other helmet is the more “standard” helmet, which would be used on pretty much every other fighter.
I like the other one more too.
Ah, The MiG-25 is unpressurized, I should have thought of that. :smack:
I rather have a sub
I thought a spare engine was included?
NO, dagnabit, I’m serious, quit giggling!
This is not to say that the spare, itself would not also be in severe need of refurb, with all the attendant costs Shagnasty mentioned?
Just asking.
Cool shit! If I only had an extra half million sitting around I would get one. I wonder how much it costs to insure and operate a sub. I bet the coast guard has some pretty strick rules about running one. Does the periscope still work?.. Wouldn’t the total freak some fucking boaters out on a weekend? Nothing like Chet and the gang hanging out drinking some Zima and see a periscope wake heading towards them…
