The Unofficial SDMB Out of the Park Baseball League currently has an openings for two new owners.
For those of you who don’t know, OOTP is a baseball simulation game that puts you in the owner’s/General Manager’s seat. In short, you have a twenty-five man Major League roster, as well as three levels of minor leagues (AAA, AA and A). You draft and develop players, sign free agents, offer and negotiate trades, manage your team’s finances, set the lineup and pitching rotation, etc. You have to watch out for injuries to players, declining superstars and highly rated prospects that sometimes go bust.
Our league is a steady league that has been ongoing for over a decade (real-time) and has just finished its 23rd season. We’re beginning the off-season now and this would be an ideal time for you to take over a team and steer it towards success. Free agents have just hit the market and any of them could certainly help the team you take over.
The team currently available is the New York Gothams. The Gothams are a strong team that finished second in the Signorino Division this past season with a record of 85-77.
The Gothams are led by this past season’s Outstanding Newcomer (Rookie of the Year) center fielder Yvon Settignano. The former first-round draft pick made a splash in his rookie season by hitting .291 with 28 home runs and 92 RBI. The 24-year old is poised to take his place in the outfield for years to come.
Another mainstay on the team is third baseman Larry McCormick. The 27 year old hit .313 this past season while slugging 22 round-trippers. His career average of .319 and OPS of .932 make him a threat to any pitcher.
Other sluggers in the lineup include LF Jim Edwards (.247/36/95), 1B Howard Rogers (.293/28/77), 2B Gene Reynolds (.299/29/103) and C Clarence Spearman (.268/19/88).
On the mound, the team is led by righty Luis Salazar. In his second major league season, Salazar posted 13 victories against eight losses while striking out 175 batters.
In the minors, the Gothams have prospects such as 1B Thomas Lyons (AAA) and picthers Derek Hanson (AA) and Bryan Harrington (AAA).
Your job will be to take this team, upgrade the pitching and take it to the playoffs.
If you decide to join the league, all we ask is that you actively participate. We sim games once a week. So, every week you’ll download the latest game updates, make any changes to your roster that you feel are necessary and upload those changes to the game server (all done via the game interface).
Since we’re in the off-season, you’ll have the opportunity to relocate/rename your franchise before the start of the next season.
There is no fee to join the league, although you do need to own the latest version (15) of Out of the Park baseball. You can purchase the game directly from the publisher (http://www.ootpdevelopments.com).
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I (or one of the other league members) will be happy to answer any questions you have.
