Want to block someone, but they're a mod

In a MPSIMS thread about a valedictorian controversy, Miller is posting things that make me want to block him (?), but due to he (?) being a mod, I couldn’t. It seems clear he’s (?) commenting as a Doper member not mod. What solution, if any, are there?

Scroll down.

So they get to say whatever they want, and can use their Moderator status as cover? :dubious:

What is he posting that is so objectionable? Do you have a link?

Other people can say what they want (within the rules). The only difference is that you can’t put a moderator on ignore. If you can’t bear to read his posts, the solution is to not read his posts.

Well, anybody can say whatever they want, as long as they don’t fall afoul of the rules. If a moderator does committ a rule infraction, report them. They may or may not get their wrists slapped, but I’ve occasionally seen it happen to moderators before. If you feel they are being coddled ( and human nature being what it is, I’d expect some inevitable favoritism towards staff, slight, subtle or otherwise ), bitch about it here, shrug and chalk it up to an unfair world, bail or do any combination of the above.

However if you are asking about being able to put a moderator on ignore, logically that doesn’t make any sense. A moderator can’t moderate if people can choose not to view their moderation. Sort of the nature of the beast.

If that’s how you want to look at it, then yes. But ignoring a mod is not wise (even if it were possible) since you would potentially miss a mod-note directed at you or the thread in general.

Since your problem just seems to be one mod in one thread, why is scrolling down, or just not reading their posts, a problem? (assuming you don’t see “[moderator]” at the beginning of the message, of course)

I’ve never put anyone on ignore, but I sure as hell make liberal use of the scroll wheel sometimes.

If it’s any consolation, the moderation staff can’t put people on ignore, either.

I have two users on ignore. I took advantage of the ignore feature because in my experience, neither of these users have ever posted anything that was worthy of a single nanosecond of my attention. This is what the ignore feature is for. It would make no sense to put someone on ignore who expresses opinions on a single topic that you don’t like. It would make even less sense if users were able to add moderators to their ignore lists.

As voltaire suggests, just ignore these posts the old-fashioned way: don’t read them.

Guess I’m just Mr. Popularity this week.

No, no, I like your other suggestion. From now on, all moderators post in spoiler boxes. Plus it will tweak the anti-multi-use spoiler-box people so that’ll be fun.

All moderators should post in #f8f8f8 in spoiler boxes

Ignored.

Maybe everybody should post in spoiler boxes. Then you’ll have to make a voluntary choice to read their post. No more accidentally reading someone’s post and getting upset. You’ll have nobody to blame but yourself.

You say that but you don’t realize, I may very well do it.

Not me, man, way too much trouble.

:smack:

Nah, seriously, too much trouble.

All of you are doing this just to bug me, I know it.

Well, duh.

I sympathize. I tried this years ago and discovered their special protection. I even had a case where someone on my ignore list (which has grown rather expansive since the Pit rule changes neutered it) got promoted to mod status and it automatically un-ignored them.

But Miller’s one of the good ones, in my experience.

More correctly, the modes here aren’t supposed to put people on Ignore and agree not to do so but vBulletin will certainly allow them to do so.

Also, the fact that we can’t put modes on Ignore here is because the staff wants it that way. The default setting is for members to not be able to Ignore staff members but it is a trivial matter for that setting to be changed.
