I want to take a UK program to the US. I can get the video/dvd in the UK, but its the wrong format. How do I find a UK video/dvd in US format?
I’d like to share Ali G with my friends back home. I know that I probably lose a few brain cells every time that I watch it, but I think its hillarious.
My SO and I went through this problem a few months ago. He has lots of region 2 dvds from the UK, and we wanted to bring them to the US. There are several options.
Option 1: Buy the DVD in the UK. Buy a region free dvd player with PAL to NTSC conversion. Play DVD.
Option 2: Buy the DVD or Video in the UK. Buy a video converter (much more expensive). Play DVD.
Option 3: Buy the DVD in the UK. Pay a company to convert the DVD from PAL to NTSC format. (I think you still need a region free player, but ask.) Play DVD. Least Expensive.
Option 4: The obvious…see if it is sold in region one format. Probably isn’t, or you wouldn’t be posting. HeHe
My SO and I bought a region free DVD play with PAL to NTSC and NTSC to PAL conversion. I think we paid about $150 for it. Here is the company that we went through. They offer options one, two, and three on their site. Good luck!
Seriously - it’s not a problem. An American DVD player can easily, and legally be converted to tregion free. Search for the make on the net and you’ll find out how. Most of the time, it’s just pressing some buttons on the remote in a particular order.
Normally, the DVD player is not the problem, it’s the tv set, but since US tv work with 60hz, whereas PAL work with 50 Hz, going from Europe to the US is mostly not such a problem as taking DVDs the other way. To play a US DVD, one must have a 100hz tv, here in Europe.
Most modern tv sets handle this, without a problem. I Have a 100hz tv, got my player to be region free, popped in the disk end presto, everything worked fine.
