ummmm, interesting suggestions… Some of you people are truly warped, which is why I spend so much time on the Dope.

One of the best boat names we ever encountered was on an old steel boat. She was called Effie O’Two. But I wouldn’t want to have a boat name that I’d have to explain all the time.

We subscribe to several boating magazines, and one of them publishes a list of the most popular names every year. Osprey is always up there, along with the ever-popular Miss B. Haven. We also knew a boat named Therapy owned by a therapist - he could honestly say he was in Therapy when he was sailing. Same marina had a motor yacht called Conference - similar reasoning.

Anyway, keep the ideas coming - no offense, but so far, no dice…

Oh yeah, if you didn’t get it, Effie O’Two = FeO[sub]2[/sub] = rust. Steel boat - rust - get it??

Misread the thread title and thought you were looking for beat names – my suggestion would be fine for a boat, too, though:

Hepcat Daddio

Yes!
Funday
Ineda Breeze
Skirting Gale
Gale Riding
Sea Mummer
Wave Reaver
Serendipity
No!
Kinky Maiden
Flying Old Crone
Rightous Indignation
Booty Call
BOTOX
Big Blow
Sound of Silence

Not Sinking, Sailing.
Or sticking to the beat names idea -** Maynard G Krebs**

Obviously the boat has undergone a major blister repair. Hope you check out the bottom before buying, because if the repair is not done properly the blisters can return.

How about

Git-R-Done
Bring It On

I guess this wouldn’t work if you paid cash for it, but we named one of our boats (years ago):

Ode to the Bank”.

I don’t have name ideas on par with those offered already, but I’ll relay what I once read in a book that had a section on naming your vessel:

Never name your boat anything that can be viewed as defiant or challenging to the elements. Boats with names like Storm Runner, Gale Chaser, or Unstoppable seem to find their way to the bottom faster than most.

So Llyr Is A Pussy is right out?

Alternatively, Lir, Ler

I always liked Unsinkable II.

Wind Lass

I saw this name in a book–thought it sounded nice (and used it when I had to name a boat in a computer game  )!

It’s on the hard right now, and the bottom looks really good. However, we will have our surveyor give it the once-over. He’s very good and very thorough. But as far as we can tell, this vessel has been very well-cared-for.

Oh yeah, and I remembered the other boat name I wanted to share here. We saw this on a J-boat in Annapolis: Dead and Bloated  I’m not sure I want to know the story behind that name.

OK, this one cracked me right up! If it wasn’t for the don’t-tempt-the-fates advice…

Once upon a time, there was a better Comic Strip named Pogo, by Walt Kelly.

Therefore, I suggest that you name you boat

USS Ole Walt Kelly

.

Be kind to the ghost of a fine old cartoonist.

Banana

Only in the North Atlantic; anywhere else and you’re safe as kittens.

Unsinkable II - that’s awesome.
I was at the start of the Chicago to Mackinac race yesterday. I don’t recall seeing any particularly clever names, but here’s the complete list of racers which may help inspire a name. I did see a giant Greatful Dead flag flying from one boat, but I didn’t catch the name. Perhaps it was the Lucky Dubie 2?

My favorite from the race: Kutty’s Ark

Believe it or not, my husband had a boat named Banana years before we met. I think we even have a life jacket that has Banana written on it.

I really like that. I fondly remember reading Pogo as a kid and musing over the names on the boats.

One of my favorite names was on an 18 or 20 foot motor-powered craft with a cabin cobbled together near the bow. It was called Toyachta.

Make that more like 15 0r 16 feet. It was tiny!
