War Plans Signal Screwup- The Atlantic is publishing the full messages

Thanks!

I know Lysenko was addressed on one of the new episodes of Cosmos with Neil Degrasse Tyson, I missed most of the episode due to poor reception. IIRC Lysenko is mentioned in one of Paradox Press Big Book series. I think it was The Big Book Of Bad in the Bad Science section.

There are new episodes of Cosmos? I think I saw one season with NDT.

My mistake. I meant new as opposed to the original Cosmos with Carl Sagan.

Ah. I saw that meme earlier today, or yesterday. Thanks.

Yep, that was my take away as well. Also look at the “Make Europe pay” bits. They really do believe that the US is getting ripped off. It’s not “trolling” or “a negotiation strategy”, it’s what they really believe.

Oooh! It gets better! Maybe this one deserves its own thread but I’ll put it here for now since it seems in the same vein of screwups:

Full Title: REPORT: Passwords of Top U.S. Security Officials Found Online – Hegseth, Gabbard, Waltz Among Those Affected

Passwords and private information belonging to top national security officials in the Trump administration have been found online, according to the German publication Der Spiegel.
In a stunning report published on Wednesday, the paper said its journalists “used commercial people search engines along with hacked customer data that has been published on the web.”

Those whose information was compromised include Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.

Baghdad Bob couldn’t do better.

Well then, good thing these dingleberries are immune to that otherwise they might do something stupid like invite a reporter!

All of them, I would assume.

One of the talking heads on CNN said that the chat that was released indicated that this communication method was entirely routine so presumably they have been using this method previously.

Would take a staffer with enormous balls and disregard for self-safety to do so. I’d imagine such a staffer could face heavy federal charges or something. At the bare minimum, firing.

Well, his staff aren’t known for their enormous brains, so…

We’re in luck then!

You can’t make this shit up.

Maybe.

I got the impression that they were repeating nonsense that Trump was telling them to convince each other that they were full regime loyalists.

Except maybe for Vance, they seemed to be saying that their bombing campaign, being, for unknown reasons, so much smarter than Biden’s, was going to restore the pre-Houthi pattern of cargo ship routing, saving Europeans a vast amount on shipping costs. They then would bill the European nations for services rendered.

I guess many here, even if they read it the same way I do, will just chalk it up to stupidity. But I thought it was more likely calculated sucking up to Trump. Heaven forbid lack of full and total bowing down to DJT would get back to the President – as indeed has happened with Vance.

They told each other that the bombing was a big success. If it was, by their own metric, cargo ship insurance rates should be going way down. I haven’t checked, but I very much doubt it.

The evidence is clear, we are led by assholes Spaceballs.

I wonder whether Trump sometimes gets on these Signal calls. A Democrat should ask Waltz next time he testifies before a congressional hearing. Refusal to answer is a yes.

I’m skeptical they are going to suddenly going to start following the protocols for secure communications. These sorts of entitled people probably think they are above associated inconvenience (and the risk that dumb things they say will be preserved for historians!)..

What happens when their government phone is about to run out of juice? I do not believe they are going to tell a cabinet secretary, much less the President, that they’ll have to get back to him tomorrow.

And the older ones have watched Get Smart cone of silence episodes too many times.,

He doesn’t. Judging from his statements on the matter, it doesn’t appear that he even knows what Signal is - he keeps saying things like “they had a bad signal” as if he thinks the problem was that they weren’t getting good reception and that’s why Goldberg was able to listen in.

It seems pretty clear to me that one of the big takeaways from this disaster ought to be that Trump is not actively involved in making these kinds of decisions. The Mad King is far too busy playing golf and fantasizing about actresses in skintight leotards these days to actually bother running the country.

So, the patients are running the asylum. Who didn’t see that one coming?

Well, since you brought it up…

Not how I read it.

JD Vance:

Pete Hegseth:

Michael Waltz:

The idea to bill “the Europeans” is pure Trump. Maybe he gave his orders on a cell phone from his golf cart. But it’s unlikely to be that informal. They mention the Sit Room a few times. They likely meet the old man there and he gives orders. And this crowd doesn’t argue back.

You beat me to it (as usual). Annnnnnd now I have an earworm.
