War reenactment around the world?

Well, in the apocryphal world, apparently they do? I actually heard this about soccer, but that’s not the UK’s national game, so it doesn’t work that way, either. Still fun.

Yes it absolutely is. Cricket is big but a much less popular sport. And England have lost once or twice to Germany in football world cups.

I think there might have been a few reenactments of England’s 1966 victory over Germany in the football World Cup.

In Nova Scotia, Canada, here’s one: “The 84th of Foot Second Battalion Regimental Association is a volunteer non-profit and self-funded organization dedicated to the research, preservation and authentic re-creation of a military regiment, camp and community as it existed during the period of the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). As living history re-enactors, members of the Association strive to maintain a high standard of authenticity in re-creating and re-enacting all aspects of life (both military and civilian) during the mid to late 18th century. Members of this Society come from all walks of life and hail from communities throughout Nova Scotia.”
And I think it likely that the 4th King’s Own Regiment of Foot, the 21st Royal North British Fusilier Regiment of Foot, and others are keen to re-enact the burning of the White House in 1812.

As a kid I was puzzled by my southern relatives all excited, and even joyous, about their local stagings of a battle in the Civil Wa – excuse me, The War Between The States.

I really wanted to ask “So you’re celebrating getting crushed by your enemies?”

Well, not officially, at least not from what I found on the web. Which had surprised me, since I thought football/soccer was it! Glad to hear the reality.

This is like lacrosse being Canada’s official game, when everyone knows it’s really hockey.

You can’t really reenact it anymore. The “Wembley Goal” only works with a square wooden crossbar.

Lacrosse is Canada’s official summer sport and ice hockey is Canada’s official winter sport.

We’ve got a law about it and everything: National Sports of Canada Act

That would work for England too.

Basically posh people think our national sport is cricket, everyone else knows it’s football.

Don’t the English attempt to reenact that every four years or so?

Anglo-Boer War and Anglo-Zulu War reenactments are a thing, but spurred more by British groups than South African ones. The only South African-based one I knew of is defunct.
