The romantic subplot can be an Ork’s journey to find a fertile plot of land in which to deposit its spores so it can reproduce.
I have no idea who we will see as their first opponent. I’d guess Tyranids. Easiest to understand. No need to try to “teach” the audience about what they are. An all consuming swarm. No dialogue. Clearly a threat to everything. Go from there.
That or human vs human with one side being corrupted by chaos (that is even easier to film…read less expensive).
Orks might be next easiest to explain but the rest (Necron, Eldar, Tau and so on) means more trouble to write and film and spend time educating the audience on what/who they are.
But it is a deep well. If Amazon pulls this off they could have enough material here for many years. Decades even (going a bit far but there is that much to draw from).

Also, arguably the only non evil faction. Tyranids are just animals trying to find food, a perfectly normal being trying to survive.
Not really. Tyrannids are a hivemind, and the hivemind is every bit as devious and intelligent as any other antagonist in the WH40K universe.
I thought Tyranids were more intentional and just wanted to consume all bio mass.
They’re smart enough to build and navigate space ships. That makes them sentient, and thus morally culpable.
Tyranids are intelligent. Their basic drone is near mindless. Kill whatever is in front of it but they get smart when you get to the higher levels. And the overarching hive-mind is very intelligent and absolutely adapts to changing circumstances (i.e. making new bio-forms to deal with particular problems).
That said, I do not think anyone has spoken with the hive-mind. It is intelligent but uninterested in dialog. It means to consume. That’s it. Nothing to talk about.
From our perspective yes.
From their perspective, they absolutely do not give a shit. You are food (all organic things are food).
Sure, but that’s literally every faction.
Someone who doesn’t give a shit and sees people as things is functionally evil, yes. And since there is no difference between functionally evil and any other definition of evil, that makes them evil.
They are not people, they see other beings as food same as practically almost every other being.
And that’s evil. Evil doesn’t need malice or hatred, all it needs is self-interest and the absence of good.
Wait a minute, is this still happening? I thought this project got shelved because Calvil wouldn’t budge on fitting into Amazon’s requirements for every show having a minimum number of minorities and women and this show having trouble making that work.
I only vaguely follow the 40K universe so I am sure I will get some of this wrong but IIRC the only female 40K human factions didn’t talk (Sisters of Silence) and …. I can’t remember the other human chapter that has females but for some reason they also didn’t work for TV either.
I read this well over a year ago and your posts are much newer so I am assuming something changed?!??
Sisters of Battle.
Sisters of Silence are blanks who can dampen psychers. Sisters of Battle are bad ass women warriors. Not Astarte level badass but above regular soldier badass.
Adepta Sororitas right?
Yup ![]()
Is there are reason Sisters of Battle couldn’t be used. Sorry, I am going off of a news article more than a year old and don’t remember the details beyond the show being shelved because Cavil wouldn’t force women in the show.
I have not read that about the show (but I really do not follow this stuff…what I see is what might show up in my news feed).
Cavill would certainly know about the Sisters of Battle. But, they are not a common thing to see.
Astartes are not a common thing either. To most imperial citizens they are both more myth than reality and most will live a lifetime never seeing them.
They are called in special circumstances when the A-Team are really needed. Most battles are just cannon fodder.
So (and I am totally guessing here) if the first season is about imperial soldiers there may not be many women (I am not sure if/how women slot in to the imperial guard if at all).
Someone who is sentient and thus capable of giving a shit but who does not is evil, yeah.
