Warnings in Politics & Elections

Consider these two statements (hypothetical):

“…candidate running one of the most openly racist campaigns I’ve ever seen”…in the last 100 years

“…candidate running one of the most openly racist campaigns I’ve ever seen”…in the last 1 month

Both of those statements would be false with regard to Loeffler.

Nothing racist

Nothing openly racist

But if you want to say or think that then more power to you but I don’t demand that someone protect me from hearing ridiculous things like that.

“I hope you’re banned” is basically a personal attack, which is forbidden in all forums except the Pit.

It’s not a new rule.

I certainly don’t see it that way, but if you do, I can live with that. I intend to express that I hope such behavior as agzem demonstrates–in this thread, no less–is determined to be unacceptable on this board. Is that better?

No thank you. These have nothing to do with the behavior that I’m discussing. If you’d like to discuss these hypotheticals in another thread, I might join you there.

Yep, that’s fine.

Okay, thanks, and my apologies for the way I expressed it earlier.

I hope such behavior as agzem demonstrates–in this thread, no less–is determined to be unacceptable on this board.

Thirded.

A quote is when you use the words of someone else. For example: agzem said, “Yes, it does sound so ridiculous it seems like a strawman.”

What you did was a paraphrase, and a poor one at that. It would be like me saying, “agzem said the poster’s comment was the most ridiculous comment in the history of the universe.”

I would never paraphrase you like that, because it doesn’t fairly represent what you said.

That bothers me too, and I tried bringing up that rule in the last meeting. Immediately shot down for some reason. Frustrating man…

I thought it was Ok for a Moderators actions outside “official, Mod hat on”?

The full quote is even worse but I give Baquet kudos for self-awareness:

We don’t want to hear anything — we’ve long said this about this about the Right — but I think the Left, we don’t — I’m not ‘we’, I’m a journalist — but the Left as a rule does not want to hear thoughtful disagreement.”

Unfortunately the NYT did this and proved that they don’t want to hear thoughtful disagreement:
