Warren Ellis' Transmetropolitan

I’ve been wanting to read this for a while but I’ve been looking on a of websites and I see different counts on the number of Trade papers backs the series was put into

I would like know how many trades the whole series was put and what their names are?

There are seven TPBs all together. In order they are:
Back on the Street
Lust for Life
Year of the Bastard
The New Scum
Lonely City
Gouge Away (also the name of a great Pixies song)
Spider’s Trash

There is also a new series still in single issue form. I think they’re up to issue #14, but I don;t know the title.

I’ve only read the first two TPBs, but i fully intend to read the others. This is a fantastic series.

In order:
Transmetropolitan: Back on The Street
Transmetropolitian: Lust For Life
Transmetropolitian: Year of the Bastard
Transmetropolitian: The New Scum

That may be incomplete.

I have the first three.

Does anyone have more info about this new series that TridCloudwalker mentioned? I loved Transmetropolitan and I would really like to see more. Is it a sequel, or maybe another story set in the same world?

There aren’t any sequels to Transmet, but Warren Ellis is very prolific and has worked on several other comics. None of them take place in the same continuity as Transmet, but some of his series include:

Planetary - this Wildstorm Comics series has been on hiatus for over a year, but it is fantastic. There are 16 issues so far, plus a lackluster crossover with The Authority (see below). The first 12 issues are available in two TPBs: All Around the World and The Fourth Man. I have no idea when #17 will come out, though. A lot of fans are frustrated, but they’ll come back running when the new issue by Ellis and artist John Cassaday hits.

Global Frequency - a 12-issue Wildstorm miniseries, with each issue as a stand-alone “mini-action movie.” Currently in progress, with a different artist on each issue.

Stormwatch - Ellis’ run covered Volume 1 #37-50 and Volume 2 #1-11, which picked up immediately thereafter. Available in five TPBs: Force of Nature, Lightning Strikes, Change Or Die, A Finer World, and Finer Orbit.

The Authority - picked up directly where Stormwatch left off, and totally raised the stakes for superhero storytelling. Mad ideas, cosmic threats, ultraviolence, and morally ambiguous heroes who weren’t afraid to kill to get the job done. Plus the “widescreen” art by Bryan Hitch was gorgeous. Ellis wrote #1-12, which are collected in two TPBs, Relentless and Under New Management, but if you have the money, I strongly recommend the oversized hardcover, Absolute Authority, that reprints #1-12.

Finally, for Transmet, there are two collections of pin-ups by other artists, accompanied by text pieces by Spider (Ellis). One is called I Hate It Here, and I can’t think of the name of the other, but they are both required reading for Transmet fans.

I meant Final Orbit, not Finer Orbit.

Big Bad Voodoo Lou, my personal favorites include every title you named except Global Frequence. I think I’ll go look for that as soon as I can.

Anyways, sorry for the hijack Lear’s_fool. We at least gave you a list of titles to check out once you’re done with Transmet.

The most recent Transmet TPB is Spider’s Thrash, not Trash. It covers up thru issue #42 of the series, which ended several months ago with #60. (The TPB’s have been coming out pretty regularly in recent months, so I expect the trades covering these last several issues will arrive relatively soon.)

There is no sequel to Transmet, and I’m pretty sure there won’t be – Ellis finished the story he set out to tell, and he was quite relieved when he was finally able to put it to rest. It sounds to me like Trid was thinking of Planetary, which has essentially nothing to do with Transmet other than they’re written by the same guy.

And, of course, Lust for Life is a classic Iggy Pop tune. I wonder if any of the other TPBs are named after songs…
