How do you feel about the fact that USA are constantly sending troops to countries thousand of miles away bombing, destroying cities, killing soldiers but also killing kids and women, using imaginary excuses like “weapons of mass destruction” or “we ll liberate the poor people”?
i am european and i would really like to learn your feelings on the subject
How do you feel about the fact that Europeans have a tendency to ignore genocides taking place on their own continent ?
Actually, that’s not a fact at all. It’s an opinion based upon one’s perspective of the appeasement before WW II and the European reluctance to deal with Serb actions in Kosovo. It’s not actually even my opinion and it is not proper for me to try and pass it off as a “fact.”
Ponder this and then try asking a less loaded question.
How do you feel about Turkish allegations that Greek soldiers have routinely massacred captured Turkish troops. I first heard this in the 80’s, & I’ve heard it occasionally since.
Since you included WOMD and Liberation, I guess that you’re talking about Iraq. In that case, I don’t think that it will liberate anyone, find WOMDs, or make the region or the US safer.
With white slavery, blood feuds, and ethnic fighting including mass murder and and rapine, I wouldn’t hold Europe’s head to awfully high though.
i am not proud of genocides done by either greeks or the rest of european countries.
but as far as turks are concerned although i have no hostility towards them please dont forget that for 400 years they massacred greeks(men, women, children). moreover dont forget the turkish invasion in cyprus 30 years ago.
when i said “how do you feel” iddnt mean to be ironic i just wanted to kno your opinion.

(cracking knuckles) Any historians please feel free to correct any inaccuracies.
Lets start with World War I. That was the first time that the United States started “sending troops to countries thousand of miles away bombing, destroying cities, killing soldiers but also killing kids and women”. I believe we were coming to the aid of Great Britain and France against the Germans.
World War II. Again, coming to the aid of allies in the face of aggression. Since the OP is european, I am interested in whether he is from a country whose bacon we saved or one that we took the toys away from. In the end it doesn’t matter. The United States rebuilt most of europe after the war.
Korea. Coming to the aid of an ally facing invasion by a force directly opposed to our thinking and dedicated to world domination. (Read some of the Soviet Unions goals sometime.) I think a pattern may be emerging.
Vietnam. Coming to the aid of an ally facing invasion. Again. Yes, a pattern is definetely present. And yes, it was in our best interest to fight communism with soldiers and bullets to show resolve.
Gulf War I. A dictator with a proven record of brutality invades a neighbor and threatens our economic lifeblood.
Afghanistan. Removed the government aiding and sheltering the terrorist organization that struck us on September 11th. As an added benefit millions of “kids and women” have better lives.
Gulf War II. Removed a dictator with a record of using Chemical attacks and that had a lot of money for mischief and terror against our interests.
I know it’s much more ideologically comfortable for some to picture us sitting around in cowboy hats playing with pistols and shouting “who’s next”…but I prefer the reality of our continuing committment to protect the innocent and punish the guilty. Can we change everything for the better? No. Do we look out for our own best interests in the process? Yes. Do we do more than any other country to improve life in the world? Check the patents on those new drugs and look to see which flag is on the tons of food and other supplies that appear in stricken places across the world and get back to me.
I was just addressing major wars, since the OP was talking about thousands of miles and bombs and the like.
As I recall, Grenada involved American civilians at a medical school that were in danger because of government instability. Some will whine that Reagan was trying shake off the stink of the Marine Corps barracks bombing in Beiruit…but those people will see bad motives in anything the United States or Republicans do.
Insurgents in Central America. More of the chess game with the Soviets. They had Nicaragua, we had El Salvador, etc. We had to play the game or concede it to them.
Panama. Noreiga was given the chance to surrender and didn’t take it.
The first time the US ever sent troops abroad for warfighting was our campaign against the Barbary pirates.
It’s where the reference to Tripoli “From the halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli” in the US Marine Corps Anthem comes from.
The Year was 1801 and Thomas Jefferson was President.
FWIW, we tried to build a coalition but it fell through because of various european powers looking out for their own interests. That’s not criticism, just basic historical fact.
So really, the relatively weak, upstart Americans acted in their own and europes interest almost immediately after it’s creation. This was because the euros couldn’t get their shit together with both hands, a map, and adult supervision. Not much has apparently changed in that dept.
Not sure that counts since it occured during the Revolution was ongoing. I don’t know if were technically an independent country at that point or still in rebellion.
