I was looking at a monthly calender in a Disney magazine from 1995 for the month of September and it said September 11th was No News Is Good News Day. Is this true?
Yes, true. It seems to have magically appeared in 1993. I can find newspaper cites to verify that. Of course, it may have even existed slightly before.
I was re-reading the book “Big Secrets” by William Poundstone a few years ago and was jolted by one passage where he mentions using “a date with no particular significance attached with it – say, September 11th”.
That may have to be changed in future editions of the book…
In Rendezvous with Rama, Arthur C. Clarke describes a fictional asteroid strike that devastates north-eastern Italy, on September 11, 2077. The strike is described as occurring at 9:46 GMT, nearly matching the (admittedly non-GMT) time of the first plane hitting the WTC in 2001 (8:46 AM).
