I joined up late (What Up Dog?), so I would like to know if the group made a huge departure from their usual style on this album, or if there is Was (Not Was) music yet to be discovered.
*thinks: “Is…was… not was… " My highschool English teacher would FREAK!” *
Well, the great (or, to some, infuriating) thing about Was (Not Was) is that they don’t HAVE a “style.” They’ve played all kinds of styles, from the sublime to the silly, and are full of surprises.
To me, their best album ever was “Born to Laugh at Tornadoes.” A very eclectic mix of styles and a host of surprising guest artists (many of them from in or around Detroit, home of Don & David Was). It even has a nifty rap number by… Ozzy Osbourne?
Give it a listen. I won’t blame you if you hate it (many people I’ve recommended it to have), but you may add it to your all time top ten list!
