Just curious.
I’m not sure if it was or not, but I’ve always thought it would make for an interesting movie if handled correctly.
If it was being made into a movie, I’d worry about how they would make the deformities of the children look real. Some, like Ollie’s, could be done with make-up and prosthetics, but how do you make an Aqua Boy? I assume some CG would be involved, and quite often it doesn’t look quite right.
I don’t think I’d be able to watch the movie if the special effects were cheesy or poorly done.
Here is an interview with Katherine Dunn. She doesn’t seem too enthused about making a movie out of the book, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be one ever.
By “not enthused” I mean it seems like she just doesn’t care much either way, not that she would be unhappy if a movie was made.
I’m reminded of Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, they did such a good job with his missing limbs, replacing limbs with short flippers might not be so difficult. And that was over ten years ago.
I am pretty sure I read it on this board that Tim Burton bought the rights to it and google seems to support me on that but I don’t want to search the board for it right now.
I don’t think I’d be able to watch if they were realistically done. I could barely finish reading the book.
