Was the Times Square ball drop televised this year?

I watched NBC last night after my local news. Much to my surprise, there was no Carson Daly, and the coverage was from Boston instead of New York. I do remember reading a month or so ago, that Toshiba was backing out of its Times Square sponsorship. Could this be related?

It was on ABC. Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin Eve With Ryan Seacrest.

It was on CNN, with Anderson Cooper.

And on CNN with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen.

It also was on Fox, with Steve Harvey.

So apparently it was on every single channel known to man except the one the OP watched.

Dang. I hate it when that happens.

Oh, how tough can it be. There’s like 3 channels, maybe 5 with independents, and two blurry PBS channels depending on how you orient the ariel.

This post bought to you by 1974.

I noticed that I couldn’t find the old foggies on PBS. But I’ll suspect that hasn’t be televised for a number of years.

I read that originally a football game was on the NBC schedule, but then that schedule was changed, and they didn’t have time/didn’t want to switch everything around to accommodate the ball drop.

One of the two. Neither NBC nor CBS had it. Then again, when was the last time CBS had any new late night programming on New Year’s Eve? I remember when it aired Letterman reruns.

And wasn’t Carson Daly on NBC last year a one-off thing, probably because it was a Saturday night? I don’t remember NBC ever doing a Times Square show (except maybe at the end of 1999) before then; Johnny Carson and Jay Leno both tended to do “in-studio” celebrations at midnight.

CNN did a report from a pot party bus in Denver, which drew the wrath of Fox’s Laura Ingraham.
