Although there is a lot of former prairie land there (mostly plowed under now), it also includes a good deal of the driftless area. Of course, I tend to be a bit defensive about that, as my parents are from SW Wisconsin and I grew up in a town in Iowa along the Mississippi. It was anything but flat–there were spectacular bluffs all around.
Now, go 20 miles inland, and things change dramatically.
