I know there was fightiing in the vicinity od Waterloo in 1914 as well as in 1940 and 1944, But the question arises; was there any actual fighting at the old battlefield itself?
Hmm… Nobody knows? I know many WWI battlefields saw actions in WWII, Vimy Ridge saw heavy fighting in 1940 and Ypres was liberated after some fierce combat, but nobody know about Waterloo?
Probably not much; the British 11th armored division was moving very fast through that part of Belgium in late August/early September 1944.
The Germans chose to fight in the Channel ports, not out in the countryside near Brussels (where Waterloo is).
What about World War I. Mons is not far from Waterloo.
