Was This a Good Deal?

Yesterday my computer started acting up, and today, it took a dive. It was about 5 yrs. old, a Pentium I, 133MHz processor, 60MB RAM, 1.2GB Hard Drive. It had a hard drive failure. The cooling fan also failed.

I priced out new HDs, and they were $49.00-299.00, and the new fan was $15.00. I also had Windows 95, but there is something wrong with my CD that will not let me reload it. The upgrade from Windows 95 to 98 is about $75.00

Today I went to the discount electronics store and they had this 'puter on sale for $475.00, with a $200.00 in store discount, plus a $75.00 mail-in rebate.

This thing is a 900MHz Processor, 128MB Ram, 20GB Hard Drive.

So this thing ends up costing $200.00, and it would have cost me a minimum of 140.00, to fix my old one.

Was buying this computer a good deal?

I am NOT a computer expert, but

-133 to 900 MHz is a 676% increase
-60 to 128 MB is a 213% increase
-1.2 to 20 GB is a 1666% increase

I would say the extra 60 bucks was well spent. But $475 for a computer? That’s incredibly low-priced!! What’s the name of this discount store?

Best Buy. They had a 5 hour sale today. The name of the computer is “e,machines”.

I have an eMachine that is a couple of months away from its 2nd birthday. I’ve had zero problems with it. The only things I’ve replaced are the mouse, the keyboard, the speakers and the video card. Just upgrades, nothing was wrong with them. (I also added more RAM and a CD burner, with no fuss.)

I highly recommend you buy more RAM yourself, especially since it’s dirt cheap now. You can buy 2 256MB chips for around $100, less if you shop around.

How do ya’ll feel about Celerons. I know they are not the best, but do they suck really, REALLY bad? I bought a new computer with a Celeron 1.1 ghz in it. Hopefully it will come Monday.

I just spent 24 hours with my uncle, who spent at least 12 of those hours describing this very deal to me in excruciating detail, even though he had absolutely no intention of taking advantage of it.

He just couldn’t get over it.

“900MHz!”

“128MB Ram!”

“And it’s only $475.00 – with rebates, too!”

He kept trying to come up with someone, anyone, who needed a computer for whom he could buy this thing.

He even went down to Best Buy at 7:00 a.m. this morning just to bask in the presence of the amazing deal.

So I’m glad someone got the deal. From everything I’ve heard, it sounds like you done good.
