In the art film Cremaster 2, there’s a really eerie scene where a husband and wife seek out a fortune teller (for lack of a better term) - a very creepy woman that leads them through a trance-like ritual to find out something about their relationship. She has them kneel on a bench at a flat table that has a hole in it and a bar running beneath the tabletop; the wife reaches her hand through the hole in the table and grips the bar, while the fortune teller keeps her hands under the table, gripping the bar and also placing a wax replica of a hand on the bar.
It’s really, really fucking eerie, so I was wondering - is this based on actual occult device or practice?
The Cremaster series of films is known for using really weird and unique props and devices for little more than weirdness’ sake, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this was just another case of that. But if it’s something real, I’d like to know more about it!
