I once read something about an early church theologian, who proposed that God (the ultimate Good) was also the author of human temptations. In effect, every man is a Job-who is tempted by god to commit evil.
this sounds wrong to me-was this a doctrine that was declared wrong (i.e. heretical).
What was it called?
I don’t know if it counts as a “doctrine” but theodicy is the attempt to reconcile “Why Bad Things Happen To Good People”, i.e., why a good God tolerates evil, and similar stuff.
Sounds a little like Gnosticism where there is an evil demiurge associated with the world and a remote good god associated with the spiritual realm.
