Washington Has a Governor!

Or, at least we kind of do… almost… more or less…

While the election ended for almost everyone else over a month ago, we’ve been in recounts. But as of last night, we may have a governor. Maybe.
Should it stick, we’ll be the first state who’s top three elected officials are women.

I wish this was in the pit. I really want to rant about what a bunch of $%^&ing bullies the Republicans are. I heard them on NPR a few weeks ago basically telling the Dems to get a life and stop whining, and now that it looks like it might not be in their favor, they’re saying,

The Republicans should get a life and stop whining. They lost. Suck it up.

:dubious:

All I was saying was that the Democrats (meaning the officials, not Joe and Suzy Democrat down on 42nd Street) seemed a lot more professional and civil in this situation, from what I’ve heard.

I found it ironic that when Rossi was (presumed) governor-elect, having won by less than 50 votes in the entire state, the Democrats did not suck it up, get a life, and stop whining. They paid for another recount, during which 500-odd more post-certification ballots just happened to be discovered. But the moment Gregoire was 10 votes ahead, she was telling Rossi to do the honorable thing and walk away.

I think they’re all acting stupid. But to claim the Democrats have some sort of moral high horse from which to wave their superiority flag…is just wrong.

Agreed. I support neither candidate – both give me the willies and, as a Libertarian, I find them equally depressing. But finding those last minute votes in Democratic King County seemed, at the very least, convenient. :dubious:

When Rossi was up he kept accusing Gregoire of trying to ‘sue her way to the Capitol’. When Gregoire took the lead, Rossi said that he is going to take it to court.

As for the ballots that ‘just happened to be found’, there were over 700 ballots that had been rejected as invalid. One of them happened to be from a Democratic Party official (or someone involved in the election). Now, this guy knew he was properly registered and that he had voted correctly. The people who count the votes did not count his because instead of going to the file to check his signature (as they were required to do) they looked on a computer file that had not yet been updated. If it could happen to this guy, what of others? I know I want my vote to count!

The King County election officials were correct in double-checking the ballots that were previously rejected. It was not the fault of the voters that the ballots were initially rejected, but of the election officials who wrongly set them aside.

(BTW: While I heard Thursday that Gregoire had a slim lead, I have been otherwise occupied and this is the first ‘official’ outcome I’ve heard.)
