I went to the ceremony at the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood yesterday. Not as elaborate a ceremony as the one downtown at the War Memorial, but at least half of the crowd were veterans or serving military, many with their families, standing amongst the many rows of headstones. It seemed more personal and less formal.
Several dead trees in Beechwood Cemetery have been carved by artists rather than cut down, and the one by the Military section is covered in carvings of poppies.
Montreal’s downtown service - the warm weather made it very comfortable to watch in person - but i didn’t enjoy the multiple-gun salute done a couple of hundred yards/meters away from the service. Lots of flying birds and a few car alarms as a shot rang out every two minutes or so - interrupting the speakers and music. Move them back to the top of Mount Royal where they were in previous years.
My fault, not sure it was worth a new thread. I still don’t know for sure what the indigenous language actually was for the traditional speech after ending the moment of silence. No one said. No TV or web media report on the Ottawa ceremony either, at least in ten minutes of search.
