Watchmen - what happened to Hooded Justice and Captain Metropolis?

heh

Mainly pity for the kids - and he cuts her some slack for begging him not to call her a whore in front of them, as “they don’t know”. They’re still better off than he was, and he’s not going to piss on their bonfire.

Even if he’s killing his victims, which is kind of ambiguous in the comics, he’s still only going after criminals. There’s no indication or even hint that he’s murdering hookers or stockbrokers. He’s definitely thrilled when he does find a criminal though - “Sometimes, the night is good to me..”

Yeah, there’s a big change in his character after that point - he speaks normally (the speech balloons are just like everyone else’s) in flashbacks before that point, but not after.

Makes one feel bad for “Big Figure” who was put into prison by Kovacs dressed as Rorshach and so was not nearly as afraid as he ought to have been when he met true-Rorshach in prison decades later.

No, I think he definately has not crossed that line by the end of the book/movie. I didn’t say he’d become a serial killer (which I don’t think is quite an accurate description of what he does, even though he is clearly a murderer), I said he’d become “an utter, sadistic monster.” He’s clearly got a pretty wide sadistic streak, but he’s managed to channel it towards “acceptable” targets: criminals, particularly violent or sexually predatory criminals. And, I’m pretty sure, always men. If he ever were placed in a position where he had to strike a woman, I think his jury-rigged moral system would collapse entirely, and he’d start preying on people (and women in particular) indiscriminately. In some versions of Batman, he’s said that he never kills criminals, because if he started, he’d never be able to stop. I think Rorschach is operating under a similar principle. He commits acts of terrible violence on criminals and thugs, because it gives him an outlet that keeps him from committing acts of violence towards women. If he gave in, and started hurting women, he wouldn’t need the criminals as an outlet anymore, and he’d become a full-on psychopath/rapist/god knows what else.

While Rorschach clearly disapproves of homosexuality, or sexuality of pretty much any kind (he calls Silk Spectre I a whore, clearly hating her image as a pin-up), I don’t think he’d consider it worth killing over - especially when it comes to fellow masks. While he is suspicious of Veidt’s sexuality - “possible homosexuality - must investigate” - the reason he goes after him is because he murdered The Comedian (although I think he had it coming, personally).

I’m not sure about that. Remember, he also accuses Adrian of being a prostitute. It may be that he objects to her only being a superhero as a way of advancing her career.
