And by extension - the scene where the very pregnant Vietnamese woman smashes the Comedian’s face with a bottle, and he shoots her, all with Dr. M looking on. I doubt it will make it, but it should.
And if the whole bit where Rorschach sees the dogs fighting over the bone and comes to his realization doesn’t make it into the movie, I’m taking my ball and going home.
Not a scene exactly - but if the full opening narration by Rorschach isn’t there at the start, I’ll be very disappointed. At least from “Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach…” to “…and I’ll look down and whisper ‘No.’”
Also, the bar scene with the finger breaking. And Ozymandias with his servants at the end.
I just re-read the comic, for the first time in 10 years or so, inspired by these threads. It is a great story all right. I have very low expectations for the movie.
One scene I really want to see–Ozymandius: “'Do it? Dan, I’m not a Republic ***SERIAL * ** villian. Do you seriously think I’d explain my ***MASTER-STROKE * ** if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting its OUTCOME? I did it thirty-five minutes ago.”
One scene I hope they cut: Nite Owl II hacking Ozymandius’ computer account by typing “RAMSES” in huge font on his computer, being prompted “Incomplete”, and adding “II” at the end there. Come ON. Ozymandius’ password is going to be harder to guess than akdlfkADKFJ!@#$df.
Finally, despite the fact that I read the scene less than a week ago, I already remembered the line “I’m not locked in here with you! You are locked in here with me!” as being delivered directly by Rorschach. As Byran Eckers notes, it appears in the doctor’s notes.
1: I sincerly hope a Certain Mutant Lynx makes the cut, including her doomed “rrrrowr?” line.
2: The Giant Crystal City on Mars shattering to the ground, although if anything takes place on Mars at all, I’d be happy.
3: Crucial, this one; proof to me that the film makers have truly captured the books… Rorsharch eating sugar cubes, complete with “ronch, ronch, ronch” sound effect.
Yeah, but I have to think the artifice of having those scenes related in proxy by a doctor talking about his patient at a dinner party will be replaced with a direct depiction in a movie adaptation.
My guess is they will show the sequence in prison with the doctor’s narration over it, perhaps cutting back and forth between the Rorschach sequence and the bemused dinner party guests.
It would be a really cool touch if they used “All Along the Watchtower” (either the Dylan version or the Hendrix, though I always heard Hendrix in my head when I read it) when Rorschach and Night Owl ride through the snow to the final showdown with Ozymandias.
Just thought of another scene - Rorschach and Night Owl in Archie under the water, the whole “Do you know how hard it is being your friend?” and Rorschach actually apologising for being a hard-to-love dick - that scene.
One thing I hope to god they don’t overlook: witty scene transitions. Like when two characters are talking, and one says something like, “I just feel so out of place… like a fish out of water.” Then they cut to the next scene, and it has something to do with a fish! Or there’s fish-related imagery present. Or maybe it’ll be a flashback to an earlier, more innocent time when one of the characters was viewing an aquarium full of fish.
And let’s hope this device is used so effectively that other movies immediately start imitating it. And maybe two decades later, they’ll still be using the exact same gimmick. That would be great.
But the drawn panels aren’t of Dr. Long sitting at his desk - they’re of Kovacs in line at the cafeteria, the guy behind him threatening to shiv him, complete with dialog bubbles, the flinging of hot fat, etc., so having a voiceover of Dr. Long describing the event, while actually showing the event on screen, would work as well.
P.S. I know there are some corrections officers on this board - dangerous prisoners don’t actually have access to trays full of boiling fat at the chow line, do they?
I KNEW I wasn’t imagining that scene. I knew Gibbions drew it! You guys had me thinking I was having a false memory. It was just presented in a different narrative form.
So it did “happen” in the book as much as anything really “happens” in a comic book?
