Water flow shutoff device

I can’t seem to find what I am looking for so I’m hoping someone out there can tell me these things exist and perhaps even where I can get one…

I have a well on my property that provides all of my water. There is a direct line from the well to my house. In addition there is a standard hydrant with an on off valve that that I can hook up a garden hose to. I am using this hydrant to automatically water my garden. The valve to the hydrant is left fully open and PVC pipes carry the water a few hundred feet down to my garden where I have 3 battery operated controls that water different beds at different times and for different duration.

It is all set up and seems to work well, except when it doesn’t. Every now and then one of the electronic controls gets stuck open, such as when the batteries get low, and that particular part of the garden gets flooded after an hour or two of constant watering. It’s not a big deal, but it wastes water which I don’t like to do. When this happens there is nothing stopping the water from coming out of the well and into the PVC pipe… presumably forever or until the water source runs dry. I would like to set up something as a fail safe so that if there is a blowout downstream the hydrant will cut off after some period of time. I could put an electronic control up by the hydrant, but there is no way to sync it with the 3 controls in the garden which I am constantly changing.

I am sometimes gone for a week and I can imagine how much water can be pumped non stop for that period of time. I just want to shut off water to the hydrant and not the house when this happens. Does such a device exist?

It does work as advertised.

Not really.
Doesn’t sound like the water runs off into a street drain or anything, so the water just sinks into the ground (except for a bit that evaporates), is filtered by the ground, and eventually reaches the aquifer that your well sinks into. That may take years, but eventually it gets there.

Of course, you have spent money on electricity to pump the water from your well, and this part of it is not used by your garden, so you might consider it wasted. But it’s not wasted in the sense that wather that becomes contaminated, or flushed downstream to the ocean is.

I have just installed a German made dishwasher that has a similar device fitted to the cold water feed pipe. It only has one.

Thanks Tride.
