of our first house. We signed the papers today and get the keys tomorrow. We’re a little shell-shocked at the moment, but thrilled, of course.
We are also the proud owners of TWENTY KOI. We talked to the sellers today, and apparently, they have no way to take these fish with them out of the pond. So now we own twenty lovely little fish.
What was my first thought?
“How the HELL am I going to come up with names for TWENTY FISH?”
After my husband stopped laughing at me, he told me to do some research online. There’s a pump in the pond, and I’m sure we can figure out what to do. Apparently, one of our neighbors behind us also has a fish pond and will be happy to talk to us about it.
Hmmm…not exactly what I’d planned on for our first house. But hey, if all else fails, we’ll let the cats have a sushi dinner party. (I’m KIDDING…I wouldn’t waste good sushi on a cat…).
Harmless, if you click on the picture, it’ll take you to the full album and you can see the inside:). We like it - a little too much paint and borders, but the plan is to paint over those ASAP. The house is a charming old house.
And thanks! We were nervous today, but now we’re just getting giddy as hell.
Are these actual koi or just goldfish? The house my family lives in now has a concrete pond, and that has mostly been nothing but trouble. It gets algae blooms, the waterfall is cracked and leaks, the pump the builders (one of the previous owners who half-assed that project along with all the other “improvements” they did) put in was too small, and so on. It should be completely drained, with all the fish, frogs and tadpoles, and the turtle (don’t put a turtle in there, apparently it’ll screw everything up) caught and put into various holding pens (mostly a kiddie pool.) Dad then gets down in there and shovels/vacuums all the crap out. For what it’s worth, even when I did see the cat go after them in the kiddie pool, he never actually caught anything (might be because he’s declawed up front.)
I guess what I’m saying is, the fish won’t be a problem. Maintaining the pond might be. Or is it just a hole in the ground with no concrete? (I can’t get the pictures to work.)
For what it’s worth, we had cats and I don’t think they were ever interested in going after the fish. Much like birds and mice, I’m not sure they would’ve know what to do with one if they caught it.
Errr…yeah. These people have got the biggest thing for borders I’ve ever seen. Needless to say, we don’t, and they’re coming down as soon as we figure out how to do it.
asterion, we thought they were goldfish, but apparently, according to the owners, they’re koi (they didn’t look like koi to me, but we also looked at them in the dark). The pond looked clean, and there was a pump in there, so we’re hoping it won’t be too difficult. If all else fails, we’ll find the koi a nice new home (maybe with the neighbor behind us), and leave the pond as a pond.
Thanks, everyone! Wer’re really, really excited - I can’t wait until Saturday!
Hey, congratulations!
I remember you started several “Arrggghh! I hate looking at houses!” threads, and you were getting frustrated. Now you have a source for lots of new Pit threads! Painting! Removing wallpaper! What the @#*& were the previous owners thinking?
Best of luck and hope you have a Home Depot or Lowe’s nearby. Before you know it, you’ll know where everything is better than the employees.
