We Are The Roadcrew! (songs about roadies)

Yes, I’m looking for songs about the usually unsung heroes of rock’n’roll who are working their asses off all day to make those 90 minutes of showtime happen every night. The greatest I can come up with is, as the title indicates, Motörhead’s (We Are) The Roadcrew (Lemmy spoke from experience), others are Jackson Browne’s The Load Out, the Byrds’ B.B. Class Road and of course the harrowing tale of roadie Bruce Berry, Neil Young’s Tonight’s The Night. What else is there?

Would a song about groupies and roadies count? Frank Zappa’s “Crew Slut”

Of course! Guess what I’m listening to right now: Shut up and play yer guitar!

Roadies are mentioned in “Turn the Page” by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.

“B.B. Class Road” by The Byrds.

Not their best song by any means, but it was also co-written by one of their roadies. Not, contrary to popular belief, sung by him though.

Huh. I’ve heard that song a zillion times and I don’t recall roadies being mentioned. And I just checked the lyrics and still don’t see any mention of roadies.

Jackson Browne’s whole “Running on Empty” album is pretty much about either being a musician or a roadie on a tour. You have to include the songs “Rosie” and maybe “The Road” on your list of Roadie songs.

Also Roland the Roadie and Gertrude the Groupie, by Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show.

“The Load Out” is pretty much the roadie anthem…or it was when I was packing it up and tearing it down back in the day.

Don’t forget Alice Cooper’s “Road Rats”.

Tenacious D-Roadie. this is a great one enjoy fellas

del.

In the early 2000s, I took young Miss Greenjeans to see Hillary Duff in concert. When the show (mercifully) ended and the lights came up and the roadies came out, the arena began to play “The Load Out” as background music. I said out-loud to no one in particular: “Oooo, best song of the night.” I noticed several other parents around me laugh and nod in agreement.

You’ll love it! It’s a way of life.

Anthrax’s cover of “Friggin’ in the Riggin’” changed the lyrics so it is about their road crew.
