This has to be one of the funniest Pit threads I’ve ever said.
And a lot of the arguments used against same sex marriages were used against inter-racial marriages. “Children need a mother and father. Children having two mothers or two fathers will be confused” vs. “Children need a single race to identify with. Children of mixed races will be confused.”

I’ve had a woman tell me, in all seriousness, that there is no such thing as mixed-race children. They’re always the same race as the mother and the race of the father does not matter.
Sounds like she’s confusing the Jewish idea that a child is Jewish only if their mother is Jewish with the idea of race. A prejudiced person is giving out stupid misinformation? What a surprise!
There’s dumb people everywhere- I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard of people refer to themself or someone else as “half- Jewish”. You might say, “Well, Jewish can be an ethnic group as well as a religion, so I can see someone saying they’re half-Jewish and half-Italian” . So can I - but these people were talking about half-Jewish and half-Catholic or Lutheran or some other Christian denomination.
Well, technically she was right. Since there’s really only one race: H. sapiens sapiens, the naked plains ape.
Or she’s thinking about the historical precedent that made the child of a black slave mother automatically considered to be black and a slave even when the father was a free white man.
I think the best way to love the Bible and believe in its absolute truth is to never read it. Reading it is too much like a visit to a slaughterhouse and a sausage works.
Bob Jones didn’t start allowing inter-racial dating until less than 20 years ago.

I often refer to myself as a half-Jew because it’s easier than updating people on my lineage, which is half Jewish and half gentile. I also refer to myself as a “Schrodinger Jew” because whether or not I’m Jewish depends on the *observer’s *interpretation. Certainly, from an ancestry/ethnic viewpoint I’m part Jewish, although not at all from a religious viewpoint.
But from a ritual viewpoint you’re either all Jewish or none, and in my case that would be none if you ask someone Orthodox. On the other hand, I’ve had Reform Jews say “well, how do YOU feel about it?”
But what makes it most stupid is the notion that there is one color/race/etc. that marks a person out as “Jewish” when in reality the old European stereotypes are, at best, only partly true for Europe and Jews from other continents look very different from that image.
The problem is, I don’t believe her.
It could be just like she said - she thought one thing, finally got around to checking the Bible, found that she was wrong, and then changed her mind and her policies. (in which case I wonder why you’d make up a “Biblical policy” without checking the Bible first… but…)
But even the Southern Baptist Convention got over its wrongness around interracial marriage over 30 years ago. So the idea that maybe interracial marriage isn’t anti-Biblical isn’t a new idea and one that she’s surely been exposed to many, many, many times before. It is simply more probable to me that she’s just a bigot who got caught. And she is deeply, truly sorry that people no longer see her as “that nice lady.” Because if she ever dreamed about being on national news, those dreams did not include being castigated by pretty much everybody.
The only credit they get is for handling the situation pretty well once they found out the cameras are turned their way rather than doubling down on their racism.
And since we’re talking about The Tower of Babel and different languages, one must only read the Bible in the original Hebrew or Aramaic.
Now if only those gay couples will stop talking to her about weddings and start calling it taking on a beloved disciple. Then she could accept their business, too.
