Oops, the article on-line now is updated to correct this (mentioned in a footnote at the bottom). It seems, furthermore, that the article has been somewhat re-written, as the entire paragraph (as quoted above) either isn’t there, or has been re-phrased beyond recognition.

For historical accuracy in reporting, they need to follow the example of the illustrious Straight Dope Message Board and put a 5-minute time limit on editing articles once posted.

I figured that would happen, especially after I pointed it out to my friend who works at the Times as a copy editor. Good for a laugh this morning, though.
