…and I’m not overly impressed. Voice recognition for searching is good, but the content that I’d grown accustomed to on the Roku is mostly gone or only available for a fee…
Husband adores it…so it looks like it stays on the main television. I’ll be relegated to the bedroom if I want Roku content…boo!
The best thing about Roku is the headphone jack in the remote. It was perfect for music shows and when others were sleeping.
USB slots have nothing to do with sticks outside of using them as an alternate power source (which is iffy). The AFTV stick comes with its own USB power adapter. The only TV slot these take up is HDMI.
I think the OP’s issue is access to the TV, not to HDMI slots. HDMI switches, if needed, are cheap and plentiful.
I think the OP is in “not what I’m used to” mode. I.e., there are programs/movies available for free via Amazon Prime Video that a Roku won’t give you. If you’re used to one, it takes a bit to adapt to the other. That’s all.
There are a lot of “apps” available for the AFTV devices that give you most of the usual stuff. And more is on the way. (E.g., the Starz! app just landed.) The AFTV Stick is the number one seller in electronics (of all types) at Amazon. It just started shipping in December. Things are happening at an amazing pace in this world.
I’m happy with mine (especially for the price). I just wish I could root it.
I’ll be happy if I can hook up the Bluetooth keyboard as promised…I’m not a fan of voice searching…and the entry of a search term letter by excruciating letter on the remote is…less than ideal. Roku just seems edgier. I’m not a standard content type guy so, I think that’s why I liked the Roku;there are tons of user created channels.
I’ve got a Bluetooth keyboard/pad paired with mine. No problem. Followed the instructions with the keyboard and the settings/Bluetooth menu on the stick.
Yeah, it helps a bit. But generally I do almost all WishList stuff on my computer browser. But from time to time I use it, e.g., configuring Kodi to use my server. As to using Kodi: that’s just button pressing.
AFTV News is a good site for what’s new, how to do various things, etc. But keep in mind the AFTV (box) and the AFTV Stick are two different, but related, devices. Make sure the guide you’re reading is for your device.
There’s a forum at XDA-developers for the AFTV devices. But it’s mostly for people doing more advanced things with them.
