For instance, I never drop food in the cage where he lives, or else he’ll associate a hand coming in the cage with food and bite at it, so I put the food in a shoebox, then drop the snake in the shoebox. It’s his own little restaurant.

This was a great tip that someone gave me early on. Now when I put my hand in our snake’s cage, she climbs up. Then I take her into another room to feed her. I think she associates my hand with “oh, there’s the thing that I can climb up, and find food somewhere”

I feed her frozen (then thawed) mice. She’s never had live food - I’ve heard that once they have live, they don’t want to go back to thawed - and it’s easy to have a few frozen mice on hand. Plus, live food can injure your snake. Plus, it’s nasty.

we ended up with one snakelet because the clutch had fungus on it. My son’s snake is friendlier than my daughters. Easy pets, but as noted upthread somewhat limited…
