We left for a 4 day weekend in the summer, came back in the fall.

Last weekend we were gone for 4 days and came back mid-day on Tuesday. About 2 miles from the house I was looking at the road side vegetation and plants and said to my wife that it looked like fall to me. “I was just thinking the same thing” she replied.

Once at the house it was confirmed more. The smell, sounds of the peepers, feel of the air, the sight of the grass, everything said its fall. So here in Southern New Hampshire fall has arrived. We left for a 4 day weekend in the summer, came back in the fall. Today, on Thursday, it is even more so.

How about you can you tell these things also with the changing of the seasons ?

Here, it’s a certain cold front in August that spells “late summer” to me. It says, “no more hot, muggy nights, but good sleeping weather,” and “here come the tomatoes”. Suddenly, the air smells a bit drier and it has a bit of leaf decay in the smell. There are many other harbingers of fall but this is the big one to me. It often happens in early August here in MN but this year it didn’t happen until this week.

Well, we got snow the night before last, so that would be a yes.

Are you sure it’s not drought? Around here the leaves are turning color and falling off the trees but it’s not because it’s fall, it’s because of drought.
