"We produce our toothpaste without fluoride because we respect our customers' diverse

Brushing prevents cavities. Fluoride does as well, particularly in growing kids without a fluorinated water supply. But I don’t see any reason adults should be forced to use it, even if it is a good idea and Tom’s is playing to the granola.

Do you know when fluoridation began?
Nineteen hundred and forty-six. Nineteen forty-six, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It’s incredibly obvious, isn’t it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That’s the way your hard-core Commie works.

Since everyone is quoting the movie why not just go here?

Amazing that movie ranks #12 of ALL TIME in terms of IMDB reviews.

Isn’t it strange that over the decades, fluoridation was considered a danger by the “right” and now the “left”?

That ain’t speculation, mottling of the teeth will happen with too much fluoride. When I was a kid, I remember seeing kids from other communities, in which fluoride occurs naturally in their water, with the ugliest, cavity-free teeth. And my neice, who’s only 14, has mottled teeth not because of that, but because she got too much fluoride, probably from swallowing toothpaste as a youngster.

Fluoride toothpaste isn’t recommended for children who aren’t old enough to learn how to spit the stuff out.

By the way, Chlorine is also a deadly poison, and is in our water supplies at about the same concentration.

Remember on the Simpsons when Homer jumps in his pool and gets slimed. Lisa tells him he needs to put Chlorine in the pool to keep out the slime. Homer figuring if a little is good a LOT is MUCH better, turns everyone white and burns them all.

Just cause a large part is toxic doesn’t mean a little hurts.

Fluoride allergies exist in a few people - I dunno if water supplies contain enough to cause anyone trouble (beyond extremist fear-mongering, which I suppose troubles us all) but there are folk who have adverse reactions to the fluoride in toothpaste. Even if it’s good for most, that doesn’t mean it’s good for everyone.

Besides, if some people prefer to go the all natural root, and believe propolis and myrrh will clean their teeth better than fluoride (which is the combination Tom’s uses in their non-fluoride toothpaste) than who am I to protest? Tom’s still sells my beloved fennel with fluoride, so I don’t care what they sell to others.

They’ve only just started flouridating the water supply around here about two years ago. They had been trying for about 5 years prior, and always got shouted down by the people who objected. There weren’t many who objected, but, my, were they loud! This last time, a woman I know started complaining about her flouride sensitivities and how hard her life would be if the water were flouridated. Well, the bill passed, and about two months later, this woman started complaining: she was sick to her stomach all the time, her arthritis was worse than ever, her muscles ached, on and on; damn those people for adding the flouride!! One catch: When she started complaining, they hadn’t started flouridating the water yet!

This is not to say that some people aren’t truly sensitive or allergic, just that some might overstate it.

Turns out there are a number of communities around here where the water isn’t flouridated. My best IRL friend is a dental hygeinist, and she says that the first time she sees a kid, she can tell whether they have flouridated water or not, because the ones who do have much stronger teeth.
