I don’t really mind listing stuff on CL; where I’m at, most people who respond and are willing to come out to the deep woods to get an item are honest and minimally flaky. I am polite to those who try to chisel the price down in email, delete all lowball offers and dissuade those who want me to give it to them free.
But the auto-botty bastards who simply want my email address and think they will get it by sending “email me your final firm price” can go fuck themselves with a Cat6 cable. I’ve gotten 30-40 on one high-ticket item (that repeatedly says “Price firm!”) alone this week. Pit-tooee.
I’m constantly looking for items on CL or Kijiji in relation to photography, be it lens, camera bodys, flash etc. So I am aware of whats being offered in my area, on any given week. The two main problems, are uneducated sellers, who have apparently no idea of what the market will bear for a given item, will simply invite low ballers to make an offer, which may in fact be a fair offer, given the item being offered.
The second problem is uneducated buyers, or buyers who are hagglers, expecting for some reason to be given a return quote, and meet somewhere in the middle. Expected for some market place in Marakesh, but unrealistic in North America, where words like Firm, no low ballers, and so forth are what they state.
I am by no means a low baller, but I am looking at paying only between 50 to 80 percent off retail, but I can see how low ballers can annoy a seller, sure you want me to sell you a 24mm-105mm L lens for 10 percent of retail , lol.
