A new high powered weapon was used in Iraq a week agol It may have been a ray gun of some sort as it bored a pencil sized hole through one side of an Abrahms tank’s armour, across the interior space and 1-1/2" into the far side and setting off the Halon fire suppressant system.
The first article on this subject, from a source I’d consider less likely to botch technical details, was in the Army Times. They also go into pretty good detail about what they think the round was. The party line is that they got hit by a “golden” RPG. I mean, a modern death ray might be able to do that, but since the air campaigns of Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, the Iraqi guerillas are stuck using those 1920s-style death rays.
This is just another peice of bad reporting, all it was, was a “Golden RPG” shot. Only thing unusual was it may be one of the more modern anti-tank weapons, but certainly not some sort of railgun or other exotic weapon…
