I just put 4 items totaling $344.80 into my shopping cart at WeatherTech and noticed some hefty shipping charges, so I called to see if they had any promos. CSR was dismissive and curt. Thanked the person, ended call, cart emptied, money saved!
Welcome to the Dope!
A word to the wise: I clicked on your thread title because I was expecting to find a spammy testimonial to report.
That said, good on you for making poor customer service have a real consequence. I don’t know if WeatherTech has a social media presence, but if they do, relating the above anecdote MIGHT result in that promo you were looking for…
This is not the first time someone has pitted WeatherTech. I mean, welcome to the Dope, new person. It would be lots of fun if this pitting went the way the other one did!
Good point on the thread title, noted. And thank you for the social media suggestion.
Too funny. I am here because of that thread.
I’m sorry you didn’t get the free stuff you wanted. Maybe your tantrum will make them feel it’s easier to give baby his cookie?
hehe, expected this. I’m liking the pit.
Hey, baby, go get yourself a cookie!
@Chingon or NoGrace? Getting themselves a cookie. Inquiring minds want to know.
You can’t blame the OP for checking about shipping charges. It is a profit center for many online businesses. I have enquired about shipping options when the only option on the site says that shipping is more than the item.
Come February those Weather Tech mats will be looking awfully nice.
Why? I’ve live at 7,500+ feet in elevation for most of the last 14 years. I’ve always just left the standard floor mats in my car (cloth in my current Jeep). Knock the mud or snow off before you get in the car it takes 30 seconds and warms up your feet.
Vendor offered product for a price, customer found the price too high for services rendered, vendor refused to change price, customer declines sale and gives testimonial to other potential customers. The Free Market works!
Nothing wrong with bitching about unreasonably high shipping costs and letting the company know it’s not acceptable.
I think shipping and handling should be as close as possible to actual cost and that firms should make their profits on the items they sell, but gaming the system is a way of life.*
*especially for small-timers on eBay and similar sites. Though it’s true that buyers often underestimate how much it costs to ship things.
You probably shouldn’t call him out by name.
mmm
Very interesting comments my rant has elicited. I honestly didn’t think anyone would care to read it. To be clear, it never was about the shipping charges. I am willing to pay for quality and convenience. I believe WeatherTech makes a great product. The CSR, who I could have called out by name - at least the one they answered the phone with (@Mean_Mr.Mustard), was the deal breaker for me.
And none of you linked to Barbie’s famous Weather Tech thread? For shame!
There’s been a Weather Tech billboard prominently displayed at the interchange between 78 and the Garden State Parkway for years. I think of that thread and giggle every time I see it.
I always wondered how weather tech had the moolah to sponsor racing series’. Do they really sell that many floormats? But now I see it’s inflated shipping charges. Makes more sense.
Not as much sense as fucking red bull being able to have TWO F1 teams, plus every other sport team out there, but whatever.
Makes perfect sense. Have you bought a Red Bull lately?
Not me. If I did, I’d feel an obligation to drink it, and putting that in my mouth is a mistake I don’t intend to repeat.
