Web hosting for dummies question.

What is the setting called for making a page appear to be

rather than

www.hostingsite.com/mysite/index.html

I have a hosting account (Godaddy) and I am sure this is real simple, I just lack the terminology for where to change the setting.

Not quite so simple - you’ll need to:

  1. purchase mysite.com from a domain registrar if you haven’t already,
  2. give your registrar the information to point that domain at your hosting company.
  3. Tell the hosting company to connect the domain name to your account.

Some hosting sites either function as domain registrars, or have partnerships with one to provide you this service themselves. Asking about ‘a domain name’ will usually get you started on the right track

And good luck with your website!

If you own mysite.com it’s as simple as setting up a “redirect.”

And if you want all of the pages to be like…
mysite.com/page1.html
mysite.com/page2.html
mysite.com/page3.html

instead of www.hostingsite.com/mysite/page1.html
www.hostingsite.com/mysite/page2.html
www.hostingsite.com/mysite/page3.html etc

you’ll want to set up an “A Name”, although that’s a bit more complicated, but nothing too hard.

You should not have to change any settings with godaddy.com web hosting. As long as your domain name is set up initially, it works exactly as intended. You may want to call them at (480) 505-8877 and ask for help.

ok it looks like the term I was looking for is called masking. In combination with the forwarding.
