Web search results

Does anyone know of a way to do a web search and get hits on exactly what I’m searching for, and nothing else? I tried searching for “bap,” but instead got nothing but pictures of a bunch of weird-looking Oriental people (apparently some group called “B.A.P.”). Then I tried baps, but that got me even a pair of equally weird-looking black women (“B.A.P.S”). Even when I tried “a bap” I got more pictures of Orientals than of baps.

Any suggestions?

Start with the most complete description of what you are looking for and then, if you get no results, scale back. I don’t know what kind of “bap” you’re looking for, but the more qualifiers the better.

For example: Daisy will get you flowers; Daisy Mae will get you a bunch info on various girls; Daisy Mae Li’l Abner will get you to the old comic strip character.

I have no idea what “bap” is. The search engine isn’t the only thing confused.

So sharing the *context * would definitely help-- for example, if “bap” is a comic book, try searching “bap comic” or “bap graphic novel” or whatever.

Think of it this way: a search engine isn’t magic. You have to prime it. You are searching for words. So try to think of other words that will likely be on the same page as the word you’re looking for. You will still get extraneous results.

Important:

  1. You can also eliminate a word from the search by putting a minus sign (hyphen) in front of it.
  2. If you want a whole phrase, put it in question marks, or else you’ll get results for the words individually.

For example, I put in my search window: bap British pastry
And got (among other results)

If you wasnt precise search results these days, don’t use Google (or Bing or Yahoo). Google and oterh “major” search engines now put a lot of their effort into trying to guess what you really want, and delivering you that. A lot of the time this works well, and makes searching easier, but if you want something particular, and a bit out of the ordinary, it may make it impossible to find. Other lesser search engines that do not try to be quite so clever, such as DuckDuckGo, might give you better results.

try adding some phrases with the NOT modifier (a simple - on google, e.g. bap -asian -term2). Look through the wrong results for a common theme and use that.

Also, to prevent synonym searches and acronym expansion, wrap the word in quotes (e.g. “bap”).

Someone please explain what the hell bap IS.

The first result on that page is what “bap” means to me, as an Englishman. (There is another meaning, but on no account when visiting the north of England should you ask a lady to show you her baps).

Like these? They look vaguely appetizing.
