I’d like to register my last name as a website domain. The only thing I really want to do with it (for now, anyway) is use it as an email addy.
I’ve figure out that it’s available, however one site (register.com) says its $133… another website (godaddy.com) says the cost is $1.79/month but limited to 5 emails. A Google search brought up justhost.com which appears to be $3.45/month with unlimited emails.
I have zero experience with creating a website so I need something that comes as a package and requires no knowledge of programming. The specs of these sites are confusing and overwhelming me.
if you’re only planning on using it for email, you don’t need to setup an actual website and no programming is required. you simply register the domain with someone and use their administration interface to setup the email address(es) you desire.
when a hosting service says you’re limited to, for example, 5 emails - they’re referring to the number of email addresses, not the number of emails you’re allowed to send/receive.
so, again, if it’s only for email - just go with whoever’s cheapest and allows for the number of email addresses you desire.
The one I use most is Host Gator. I think the “Baby croc” package is about 8 a month. It isn’t bad, honestly. A guy at work recommended it and I’ve loved it ever since. The biggest thing is they have wonderful service. A ticket has never gone more than 3-4 hours unanswered for me (even at 9 or so at night), and live chat always works great. They offer a lot of expandability (is that a word?) - I have unlimited emails, hosting space, blah blah blah, but I can just add on a domain name and add it to my account at any time for the $15 registration and then it is $15 a year, leaving it open so you can expand it to whatever you need.
