My provider is offering me a discount on something called ‘sitelock’. The price is very good, but I want to just get some opinions from real, unbiased people before I go ahead and order it. It claims to offer protection from cross site scripting, sql injection, spam, stuff like that.
I have some basic level of understanding and self-made protection from at least one of the things it mentions (sql injection) and possibly the others by sheer accident or by virtue of not having certain website features (such as login pages)
To those who have websites with hosting companies; have you heard of ‘sitelock’? Is it worth having?
Lobsang, I don’t have a website, but my brother has a webhosting company. I’ve emailed him a link to your thread (don’t worry, he knows not to come sailing into IMHO with his salesman hat on). His company website doesn’t mention sitelock, but that doesn’t mean he won’t know what you’re talking/asking about.
If he responds directly to me, I’ll forward his comments on to you. If he decides to join up and deal with it himself, well, that’s on him, I guess.
Good luck, I hope you find the information you need.
Okay, my brother got back to me, and here’s the word from the horse’s mouth:
I trust you have a better handle on what that meant than I do (although I think it means “don’t bother”). If not, let me know, and I’ll see if I can get him to elaborate.
Thanks for getting your brother to look into it His answer is kind of what I was expecting (no need to bother).
I don’t currently do any monetary transactions. If I do in the future (hopefully - who doesn’t want to make money right?) I will be taking my website security much more seriously. At the moment it’s just a photo gallery (experimental), and a blog
