How the hell do you get people to see your website anymore?
I’ve tried search engine submission. The site never shows up. I don’t know what else to do.
(Don’t worry, I won’t advertize it here, although I think it’s pretty neat)

This also worked, it’s a “link club” no banner ads, just a tiny spot logo at the end of your page.

They also have a way to see what your ranking is before and after, and a guarantee that if you dont get listed they will run your banner ad. A really classy group. I’ve been with them a year now.

There’s some fine print, but basically they keep the rights to the name until you pay $14, then it’s all yours. So it’s like try-before-you-buy.
Some sites seem free, but tie into site hosting charges.

Sure they show up. Yahoo can take weeks because they hand look at each one of them. Don’t be so impatient. Try the other search engines. There are about nine.
I hate pop-up windows.
My question would be, unless you are selling something, why would you want a lot of people you don’t know looking at your website?
Well you have to be a bit of a self-promoter. I got my website mentioned as the Netscape Rage of the Day nad as the Cool Site of the Day. Basically myself or a friend emailed them saying “Look at our site!” It worked.
Right now my site is in the etour lineup, searcharrow, got mentioned at a few other places (humor.com for example). But it is hard after that.
Arken, well done although I agree that the timing of each frame might be tweaked a bit so it runs a bit slower.
Of course the difference between the propaganda you saw in America and the propaganda they saw in the USSR and China is that theirs was mostly lies while what you saw, in spite of being propaganda, was mostly the truth. In any case I do not think anyone can seriously think your “movie” is meant to be anti-American.
I have spent time in China and I have seen some of their propaganda “documentaries” on TV. I remember one about MacCarthy and the communist witch hunt and discussing it with my Chinese friend. I told her Maccarthyism is not anything to be proud of and today’s equivalent is Political Correctness which is just as much of a witch hunt. But, I asked her, how many people were killed in these American witch hunts? Zero. How many Chinese were killed by the Cultural revolution? Millions. America is not perfect but it’s a darned sight better than China.
OOps, sorry, I got sidetracked there for a minute.
Can you tell me in very basic terms how you do a shockwave “movie”. I am thinking if it is not complicated or requires expensive software I might give a try to doing something like a slide show with photos and add some music and voice. I have no problem doing the individual photos and the sound separately but how do you combine them into one presentation? Sounds like something I might enjoy.

Yes, I agree, it needed to be slower… but I am moving on to bigger and stupider things and I say, damn the torpedoes, let it be as it is!
Flash is not cheap. I think it’s around $350, but I was given it by a former co-worker who didn’t want it anymore.
However, if you’re not against a bit of illegality, I know that you can download the demo from macromedia and crack it with a widely-available crack program.
As far as ease of use, I think it’s really simple, but then I’m very good with software, so I’m not the one to judge. I’ve heard others say it’s not so easy… but there are a bajillion tutorials out there.
Oh… one final note… believe it or not, some people did think it was anti-American. I’m not exactly a flag-waving patriot, but I like living here quite a bit, thanks. It was just an example of why you should always question propaganda.
Also, if your web site is on one of those free websites like geocities, aol, etc, some search engines won’t list it because there are too many sites on those places.
That’s not true.
I’ve got a free website at Geocities that’s on all the search pages.
I got the LinksToYou mentioned above. If you have other people (in the club) linking to you, the search engines will all list you.

We constantly are at the mercy of our own state department’s propaganda mill.
They demonize any leader first, to cut off debate, and then send in troops. That’s why we fought in Afghanistan and put in one of the most repressive regimes on earth.
If there had been honest, even-sided debate, we would never have been there, and they might be free today.
Of course, this is nothing new, Greener.
The ancient Egyptians were masters of propaganda. King Tut was depicted as leading men into battle when he was just a boy… and they NEVER wrote about military losses.
Unfortunately, propaganda will always be with us. All we can hope to do is make fun of it.

What’s fun is to make a web page saying something sucks, submit it to search engines, wait till same shows up, then change the web page. Then when people search, the results show that nasty stuff as a summary but its only at the search site
