So, I’m addressing envelopes for my upcoming wedding and I came across a curiosity.
When addressing to someone with a title, i.e. Dr. I have seen conflicting reports on the proper way to address the envelope
Most commonly I see the following:
Doctor and Mrs. Alan Smithee
address line two.
city state zip
What if both are Doctors?
Doctor and Doctor Alan Smithee ?
Doctor Alan and Doctor Ellen Smithee ?
Doctor Alan Smithee
Doctor Ellen Smithee ?
Furthermore, what do I do about the inner envelope?
Doctor and Doctor Smithee? that just looks funny.

Yep, I would agree with Xema .
But what about a male non-doc and a female doc?
Mr. and Dr. Alan Smithee seems wrong…

According to the above referenced link…
Doctor Jane Davis
and Mr. Carl Davis
If they’re both doctors, then either of the following is correct according to the site above:
Doctor Jane Davis
and Doctor Carl Davis
or
The Doctors Davis
So I see it like this; it’s Mr and Mrs unless you have to use both of their first names then you put the woman’s name first.

Enright ’s cite covers it, as well as the question in the OP:
Dr. Elaine Smithee
Mr. Alan Smithee
