Wedding Ring Material Selection

So I’ve found out :smack: :stuck_out_tongue:

I may have thinking about Tungsten when I bought it. But I’m still happy with the titanium though.

Also probably a good option, as the other choice I was looking at was a LOTR replica of the one ring. Extremely geeky and I think it might have lost its cool factor by now!

I will admit that Elvish script is cool looking.

Still haven’t decided about the Tungsten (Carbide), and the question about nickel keeps coming up. Most of the sites say that you should stay away from cobalt as a binder and one goes so far as to say that the nickel becomes hypoallergenic when alloyed (sorry if it’s the wrong term) with the tungsten.

This thread has given me lots more options, though. Thanks again, everybody.

AFAIK, cobalt has become such a boogeyman in tungsten carbide rings that no sane jeweler would sell anything with it. When I was ring shopping about two years ago, everywhere you looked, people were proudly and loudly proclaiming “No Cobalt!” in their products.

We bought our rings on eBay for about $40 each, vs $500+ each for the same design at a local jewelry store. Same vendor now sells the same ring for $55 or so, including shipping via their website. Not sure if they’re still on eBay, but it wouldn’t surprise me. When I’d mis-judged the size, it was no problem to send it back for a different size. A few bucks for postage to send it back was still far cheaper than a regular jeweler, who probably buys their stock from the same company.

Regarding damage - if you keep it on your finger, you’re more likely to suffer injury to your hand than to have any damage done to the ring. You’re also less likely to suffer the wrath of your spouse when they catch you not wearing your wedding ring.

I’m not married, but I’ve worn my mother’s wedding ring (on my right hand) since I was 16–so close to 11 years now–and (not counting the time between the divorce and when she gave it to me) Mom probably wore it for about ten years before that. The ring is a white gold base with a carved yellow gold section laid over the middle (here’s an updated version of the same ring). If you look at it closely, it’s visibly scuffed, but there’s no major damage.
