I have to attend my sister’s wedding shower on Sunday and I need some suggestions for a gift. Yes, I know, lingerie or sexy nighties are de rigeur, but what are some other ideas?
I’m going to my SIL’s hen’s party tonight and didn’t even think to buy her a gift for it. We got them an engagement pressie and a wedding present, as we are flat broke that’s all they get, well other than the pleasure of our company.
It’s a bit late if the party is Sunday, but I often get wedding and/or shower and/or housewarming gifts at Penzey’s, a spice supplier. Check out the gift boxes.
Is it a theme shower? You know, kitchen stuff, bedroom stuff, that kind of thing? If so, tailor your gift to suit that. If not, get something that will mean something to her.
My brother and sister-in-law moved into a new house with a nice big yard right before they got married and she loves flowers, so I made them a love garden kit. I looked up flower meanings on the net and got seeds and cuttings of various plants with love/marriage-related meanings. Joy, hope, fidelity, and so on. The seeds and cuttings got bundled up in pots to start them in, and put in a nice basket with a trowel and booklet of care instructions.
Everybody thought it was a really cool gift, and it was terribly easy and inexpensive. The SIL loved it, especially since I made sure to include daisies (her absolute favorites).
a gift cert to a bed & bath store, Pier 1, etc. is usually a good gift, especially if it’s she is setting up her first home. That way, she gets to pick out her own colors for towels, kitchen appliances & so forth.
Thanks for your ideas. I was looking for something different and the garden set is a good idea. Sis and her fiancee have rented house and have it full of furniture. I should point out sis is in 36 and fiancee is 40. Fiancee had lots of stuff from his previous life.
As far as I know, this is not a theme party.
They do have quite a large yard, so I’m thinking the garden set is the idea, although the gift certificate to Pier 1 is a good idea that I may go with also.
I knew I could count on the good folks from SDMB to help me out!
I have given a set of flamingos to 4 different relatives on their wedding day. Those 4 are still married and happy. To those relatives that did not receive a set, their marriages have ended in divorce. My niece who is getting married next month has specifically asked me for a set and she even included them in gift registry with Target’s Club Wedd.
