Weddings: Groom on Right?

I was told the groom traditionally stands on the right. This comes from a time when the men donned swords. Most being right-handed, the sword was worn on the left. Hence, the groom could readily pull out his sword without injuring his bride. Is this correct, or just a bunch of bunk?

This is true actually.

There is a similar story I beleive as to why some countries drive on the left side of the road.

I think that Cecil himself tackled this question on some time ago.

Hmm… Looks like my reply got eaten by the hamsters…

According to what we were told when I got married, the groom stands to the right so his bride will be on the left; the side closest to his heart.
