I just spoke with the manager from the Holiday Club and he had no problem with getting us the room on Saturday May 10th for 3 hours, from 8-11, and then he may want to open it up, but only if there is overflow. He seemed pretty flexible too, which I like.
He said we could do a package deal of $30 dollars a person for 3 hours of drinking of beer, wine, and well drinks, which would seem fine for me. He also seemed flexible on doing hourly counts, so the people who were there for only 2 hours would be charged $20, and for 1 hour they’d be $10. After that, people can buy their own.
Not having the charm, nor beauty of Gundy, or JP, I was unable to ascertain the status of karaoke. I’ll leave that flirting to the professionals.
OK, so I was busy and didn’t get to check this before then.
I am definitely in favor of The Holiday Club and not just becasue the waitress wore pigtails It has a nice atmosphere, drink prices were reasonable, and the food looked tasty. It is easy to get to from both O’hare and downtown, the far North side is a bit of a pian CTA wise but we’ll manage - I don’t want to be driving anyways and the Blue Line to the Red Line isn’t that bad.
Karaoke would be fun, ChiDopers who made it to the Grace Bowl will attest to that, plus it will give **jarbabyj[/n] an opportunity to debut her all German version of 99 Red Balloons!
You can probably count me in, unless I am overcome by the urge to storm the White House or something. Then again, that would probably be better accomplished while under the influence…
Friday is looking party sunny with spotty chances of me not attending. I’ll know more tomorrow. Do we want to meet a Moretti’s or Black Rock at 7:00? I’m up for either. I’ll buy the first round whichever it is at.
You mean Friday, right? Not Thursday (tomorrow)? Thursday night y’all can join me, if you want to pretend you speak Russian for a couple of hours; I’m booked up.
I’m wearing pants already, unless they are dragged off of me by a cop on horseback. The lines of horses always remind me of that horrible scene in Dr. Zhivago where the Tsar’s police mow down the unarmed demonstrators begging for food. But that’s a topic for another day.
Which line are you taking? It’s within easy walking distance of the Addison Brown Line stop (turn right out of the station and walk two blocks west, turn right at Damen & Addison – you can’t miss it, there’s a big neon sign). From the Blue Line, you’d have to exit at Addison and take the Addison bus east to Damen – it’s a bit of a walk.
Brown Line is much easier. Plus, it’s good to know it’s near the Brown Line; means I don’t have to take the Blue Line all the way downtown to the Red Line to get home, or some Godawful combo of buses.
